Client Engagement with Personalised Audio
Category: For Coaches Reading time: ~3 min
Overview
One of the most common objections coaches raise is that clients "won't bother" listening to recordings sent between sessions. The evidence points in the opposite direction — but the key word is personalised. Generic recordings are ignored; recordings made for a specific client, for their specific goals, in the language of their own session, are used.
Why personalisation changes engagement
When a client receives an audio recording that:
- Addresses their stated goal in language they recognise from your sessions together
- Uses their preferred name or a phrase that resonates for them
- References the specific work you have been doing together
- Feels like an extension of the session rather than a generic product
…they experience it as genuinely made for them — because it is.
TheraScripts generates recordings from a client-specific profile snapshot. The content, language style, pacing, and framing are adjusted based on the intake assessment and your session configuration. The result is not a template with a name inserted; it is a session built around this client's profile.
How to set clients up for success
Frame it as part of the programme. Clients who receive recordings as an optional extra are less likely to use them. Position the recording as an active component of their programme — something they commit to engaging with at a specific time each day or week.
Give them a clear instruction. "Listen to this at bedtime when you are comfortable and won't be disturbed" is more actionable than "listen to this whenever you like."
Follow up in session. Ask what they noticed during or after the recording in your next session. This creates accountability and gives you clinical information about how the content is landing.
Start short. A five-minute grounding exercise is easier to commit to than a thirty-minute deep relaxation. Build the habit first.
